Clinics & Services

The surgery offers a variety of clinics and services; please see list below. All our clinics and services are provided by highly qualified clinicians. If you need to use any of the services listed, please contact reception at your surgery and they will be able to book/refer you to the service.

pregnant8Antenatal Clinic

Antenatal patients are routinely seen at regular intervals by a midwife throughout their pregnancy. Clinics are held at both Bushbury Health Centre and Wednesfield Surgery with the midwives attached to the surgery.

Asthma & Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Our nurse practitioner or practice nurses regularly monitor patients and alter their treatments to suit individual needs, therefore, helping to reduce the number of attacks and hospital admissions.  Emergency facilities are held within the buildings to deal with asthma situations promptly, rather than referring to hospital (unless absolutely necessary)

Blood Pressure Clinic

These clinics are run by our health care assistant to monitor patients who have blood pressure problems.

Blood Tests

We carry out blood tests on Monday and Wednesday mornings at Wednesfield Surgery and Tuesday and Thursday mornings at Bushbury Health Centre; these are undertaken by a qualified phlebotomist. We also offer blood tests for patients who are taking anti-coagulant and rheumatology drugs.

Cervical Smears

These are carried out by the practice nurse or doctor.  There is a recall system in operation, however, if you are not called when you think appropriate, please contact the surgery. 

Chiropody/Footcare/Self Referral

Your doctor may refer you for chiropody. You can also refer yourself, please ask the reception for more details. Priority is given to patients who have diabetes or other significant conditions. 

Contraception/Coil Fittings

If you need advice on contraception, please make an appointment with our nurse.  We operate a coil fitting service; please speak to the receptionist who will make you an appointment to discuss this with a doctor. At present coils and implants are only fitted at our Wednesfield Surgery.

Counselling Services

We have counsellors attached to the surgery, if you are referred you will be contacted by the service with an appointment time and date.

Diabetic Clinic glucose_reading

The majority of our diabetic patients are cared for and monitored at the surgery, with routine checks with our practice nurse. New diabetics are carefully supported with sessions on a one-to-one basis. There is close co-operation with the Diabetic Centre at New Cross Hospital.

Dressing Clinic

The practice nurses and health care assistants run these clinics.

Flu & Pneumococcal Vaccination

All patients with diabetes/asthma/lung/liver/heart and kidney disease and residents of residential and nursing homes are recommended to have a flu vaccination. All carers and patients aged 65 and over are also advised to be vaccinated. We will advise of flu clinic dates from July 2016 onwards.

Child - Flu Clinics (protect your child from flu)

Ages 2, 3 and 4

If your child is aged 2,3 or 4 they are eligible for a free flu vaccine please bring your child along to any of the sessions in September/October at either surgery, Prestwood Road West or Bushbury Health Centre. We will advise of the dates from July 2016 onwards.

Under 16

If your child is under 16 and normally has a flu vaccine.  Please bring your child along to any of the sessions in September/October at either surgery, Prestwood Road West or Bushbury Health Centre. We will advise of the dates from July 2016 onwards.

Healthy Heart

Our nurse practitioner or practice nurses monitor patients who have heart conditions or facts which may affect heart conditions, e.g. high cholesterol.  These clinics take place at all sites.

Minor Surgery

This can be performed at the surgery by one of our doctors, usually assisted by one of the nurses. Suitable cases of minor surgery are carried out under local anaesthetic.

Smoking Cessation

The practice nurse and health care assistants will help you to stop smoking and ensure that you receive full support.

Stroke/TIA

Our nurse practitioner and practice nurse's regularly monitor patients and alter their treatments to suit99351926 needs, therefore, helping to reduce the number of attacks and hospital admissions. If you have suffered with a Stroke / TIA  you will be automatically called to a clinic.

Travel Immunisations

If you are going on holiday and require immunisations, please speak to our practice nurses at least eight weeks before you intend traveling. There may be a charge for this service.   

Well Baby and Child Health Surveillance

The health visitors, practice nurses and doctors hold these session for well babies and children only on a Wednesday afternoon  between 14:00 and 15:30 at Wednesfield Surgery and between 14:00 and 15:30 on a Friday at Bushbury Health Centre.  Sessions at Dunkley Street are held every Wednesday afternoon.
